Springfield campus blog

Hello everyone, I hope you’ve been enjoying the mixed bag of weather this week of sunshine and showers.

Having been in post for 2 weeks now, it actually feels like I’ve been in post for 2 months with the amount that I’ve learnt and all the people that I’ve met. It really is amazing to see the campus starting to take shape, not just in its physical form but also in the way that it’s already beginning to be a hub that brings the community together.

Over the past week I’ve been out and about starting to meet members of the community, local groups, schools and businesses to explain what the campus has to offer and how the space could be used. There is much interest and excitement around the different possibilities which is fantastic.

I also had a really good meeting with The Corsham School who are very keen to develop a joint volunteering strategy for 6th form students. This would be a great opportunity for the students to gain some practical work experience and enhance their CVs and university applications, as well as providing the campus with a good turnover of willing volunteers.

The campus build is progressing well as you might have seen if you’ve passed by it recently. The best views are from the back, at the car park, where you can really get a sense of the scale of the community space that’s available inside.

In the past week, the contractors have been busy installing both the training kitchen and the commercial kitchen, and laying the flooring inside the campus. The atrium ceiling is being painted and the external paving is progressing well. Orders have also been placed for the internal campus furniture, and the commissioning of the biomass boiler system will begin on 27 May. So the campus is definitely beginning to take shape inside as well as outside.

Please don’t forget to contact me if you have any queries about the use of the campus. I am happy to come out and meet with you or your group to discuss your needs and how the campus might be able to help you.

Have a lovely weekend.
