Swindon and Cricklade Railway is holding a sponsored walk on Sunday 26 February to help raise funds to purchase a new marquee for the railway.
Owning a marquee, rather than hiring one at various times during the year, will help to make the railway’s events more profitable.
The walk, which offers walkers the rare chance to “officially” walk along the railway line, is seven miles long, and starts at Mouldon Hill/Taw Valley Halt, and goes to Cricklade, returning to Hayes Knoll for a tour of the engine shed (if desired).
The walk then continues back to Blunsdon for tea/coffee and a cake, before the final stretch back to Mouldon Hill/Taw Valley Halt.
For walkers that do not wish to walk the full length, the route can be broken into smaller segments according to the length of walk desired.
As an incentive, any individual raising more than £400 will get a free driver (footplate experience) taster, for which there is an age limit of 18.
For any Under 18s that raise this sum or more, two family passes to events are on offer.
