SHINE, Wiltshire Council’s healthy weight management programme for children aged 7 – 11 years old is being launched in four venues across the county in January 2015 following a successful delivery of a pilot project in Trowbridge.
SHINE stands for Self Help, Independence, Nutrition and Exercise and aims to help children and their families make the necessary changes to lead a healthier lifestyle.
The 10 week project is aimed at children who are above their healthy weight range for their age and weight, is part of a 12 month support package for families. The programme features a 2 hour weekly session for the first 10 weeks which includes fun, practical sessions focusing on nutrition, food groups, portion sizes, food labelling, physical activity and healthy choices.
Courses start in January 2015 at the following venues:
• Chippenham, Monkton Park Primary School, Tuesdays from January 13, 4 – 6pm
• Trowbridge, Oasis Academy, Longmeadow; Wednesdays from January 14, 4 – 6pm
• Salisbury, Manor Fields Primary School; Wednesdays from January 14, 4 – 6pm
• Tidworth, Clarendon Junior School; Thursdays from January 15, 4 – 6pm
The project is offered at no cost to families and spaces are limited on each programme.
