Springfield Community Campus pool opens to the public
People of all ages will be taking a dip in the newly refurbished Springfield Community Campus pool when it opens to the public next week.
The 25 metre pool will be open from 7am on Thursday 23 July with dozens of people anticipated to take advantage of the facilities. The pool, complete with new male and female changing rooms, will host a range of classes for the community.
Young people will particularly enjoy the benefit of the newly opened pool over the summer holidays as Wiltshire Council funds free swimming for Under 16s during all Wiltshire school holidays. To access this young people will need to apply for an under 16s school holiday free swim membership card.
The pool is the latest facility to be opened at the Wiltshire Council run community campus. Earlier this month the new state of the art fitness suite opened. Customers can tap into the latest technology on the fitness machines to tailor their keep fit regime to personal goals.
John Thomson, cabinet member with responsibility for campuses said: “Taking a dip in your local pool is something we can all enjoy whatever our fitness levels. I’m delighted this key asset to the campus is opening in time for the summer holidays so our young people can enjoy the health benefits of free swimming and have fun at the same time.”
The campus is the first in Wiltshire Council’s countywide programme to provide improved facilities and services. It was first opened in August 2014 with a library, café, climbing wall and rooms for community space. In May the new entrance was opened providing a focal point for customers to access all Wiltshire Council services as well as Wiltshire Police.
Recent developments include more than 50 additional car parking spaces as well as disabled and minibus bays at the front of the campus. The sports hall, two squash courts and movement studio also opened last month along with the dry changing facilities.
