New playground equipment at Corsham Regis

Climbing apparatus

Friends of Regis (FOR) and everyone at Corsham Regis Primary Academy, would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who contributed to the refurbishment of the Key Stage 1 playground in November 2017.

“Developing the Key Stage 1 playground has long been on the Corsham Regis agenda. Funding our vision for improvement has always been the stumbling block,” says Mr Spicer, Headteacher.

It took two years of extensive fund raising and careful planning, and could not have been achieved without the time and support of so many people, most notably Mrs Kathryn Roynon, Chair of FOR, and Mrs Lesley Ford, Early Years and Key Stage 1 Leader. Part of their work involved successfully applying for a grant from Corsham Area Board (Wiltshire Council). We were delighted that they were happy to support the project and the aspirations for our children.

“Thanks to the dedication and resilience of both Mrs Ford and Friends of Regis, the children in Reception and Key Stage 1 now have access to their very own special play equipment,” continues Mr Spicer. “This means they have the opportunity to develop their physical attributes as well as having a lot of fun with their peers! On behalf of all the pupils at Regis, I am incredibly grateful to all those involved in helping us to achieve our vision.”

The refurbished playground and new apparatus has been enthusiastically welcomed by all of the Regis community, most of all by the pupils, who love it! It is their special place to play and be active with others. As well as the climbing apparatus, there is a quiet garden area with seating and all-weather surfacing, plus an outdoor stage. Here’s what some of the children have to say about their new improved play facilities:

“Everyone loves it because it’s such fun!”
“I like it because I like climbing.”
“I love climbing using the ropes and playing with my friends.”

Mrs Ford, Early Years and Key Stage 1 Leader, says “It’s fantastic to see the children working together and being given the opportunity to develop their physical play.”

The new play equipment is also available for the pupils at neighbouring South Hills Nursery to use after school hours and during the school holidays.

As a community member, if you think you may be able to assist FOR in anyway please contact the school on 01249 712294.
