Library and cafe open at springfield community campus

Springfield community campus has celebrated another important milestone as the library and cafe became open to the public yesterday, 7 August.

The whole campus yesterday was buzzing, with over 700 people visiting the new library throughout the day. This is almost 3 times as many visitors that would normally visit the library on a regular Thursday, which is fantastic and really highlights the community’s interest in its new community campus and the facilities on offer.

The new and expanded library now has 15,000 items available to borrow, with £10,000 spent on new stock. This includes a generous £5,000 donation from local charity The Methuen Trust.
The library service is free to everyone to join, and offers a huge range of books and information, space to study, read and relax, free interest access with bookable PCs or free Wi-Fi.

Visitors can also enjoy a range of EBooks, DVDs, CDs, talking books, a fantastically bright and colourful children’s area and a range of activities and events for all the family to enjoy.

The new cafe has also proved extremely popular to visitors, serving a range of hot and cold drinks, snacks and lunches. The cafe opening hours for the time being are 10am to 3pm Monday to Friday, and we will be continually assessing and monitoring demand over the coming weeks to ensure that the opening times reflect visitor’s expectations and needs as much as possible.

Springfield community campus also continues to welcome local sports clubs, community groups and gym users since the sports hall, squash court, flexible community rooms and temporary fitness suite were opened last month.

And there is more still to come. Further services including the Neighbourhood Policing Team, services and facilities for young people and adults with learning difficulties, and a climbing wall will start to become available from September.

If you are yet to come and pay us a visit, please pop in and see us very soon. You will be very welcome and we welcome any feedback you might have.
Have a great weekend everyone.
