Re: Free Places Available on Healthy Cooking Course, 7th,14th and 21st Sep 2017
Following the success of running two free cookery workshops at the Corsham Community Campus in Sep 2016, Corsham Health and Wellbeing Group will now be offering free additional sessions this September on a first come, first serve basis.
In Sep 2016, the Warm and Safe team at Wiltshire Council organised the workshops to not only provide cookery skills to the participants but also offer help and advice. This included energy saving information and signposting onto other services. For many households across Wiltshire the choice of having to spend money on food or keeping their home warm is an all too familiar situation. Evidence shows that people in fuel poverty will often choose between heating their home and eating. The aim of the session was to demonstrate that with some support you can do both without worrying that the cost will be too great.
Having secured funding from Corsham Area Board, we are not just replicating the previous sessions but also developing them further. Instead of them running as a one off, each person who signs up will attend for 3 sessions in consecutive weeks. Groups will be of 8 to 10 people. The purpose of this is to not only provide additional skills but also offer greater opportunity for lasting mutual support and friendship.
The cookery lessons will as before be provided by “Any Body Can Cook” and the participants invited to eat their lunch and on one of the days talk to a warm and safe advisor where advice will be given about bill switching, the priority services register, the warm home discount etc. They will also be provided with healthy recipe cards and information about the Warm and Safe service.
You may be recently bereaved and having to learn to cope on your own. You may be struggling to pay bills or just want to learn to cook more healthily and cheaply. Whatever the reason, if you or someone you now would like to join one of these groups then please book a place. One group will meet in the morning and another in the afternoon and we will try and give you the option you would prefer.
