Have your say on Council Tax Reduction Scheme

People are being encouraged to have their say on proposed changes to how the Council Tax Reduction scheme is delivered next year.

Wiltshire Council is asking people for their views on a number of options to help provide a balanced scheme while addressing rising costs.

The Council Tax Reduction (CTR) scheme is a means tested benefit for working aged people which currently supports 14,033 households on a low income through a reduction in their council tax.

In line with other local authorities Wiltshire reviews its local scheme regularly.

Wiltshire residents are being consulted on a number of options which bring the local scheme in line with the national housing benefit scheme, ensuring the scheme is fair and manageable while addressing rising costs. Any changes will only affect working age households as those of state pension credit age have their scheme set by government.

Dick Tonge, cabinet member for finance said: “We are asking people to give us their views to help us shape a system which continues to provide fair support while keeping costs manageable where appropriate. Once we have received public feedback we can then make a decision on how we deliver the scheme next year.”

The consultation is open until 19 November 2016 and can be accessed at
