This walking project is now in its 6th year.
The project was set up to encourage the residents of Wiltshire to increase their physical activity and thus reduce the increasing symptoms of sedentary behaviour.
The project offers a schedule of 25 Free weekly led walks at locations across the county and because it is a rolling project groups set up by the coordinators eventually become self sustaining through volunteers training to gain their Walk Leading certification and allowing the 2 coordinators to move on and set up another new group.
Currently the project has 1900 registered walkers and over 120 active volunteers helping to lead the 25 weekly walks.
One of the key elements of the weekly walk is the post walk social –each group has its preferred venue for coffee after the walk and this social side of the project has proved a very important element and has led to many new friendships and helped combat social isolation particularly in rural areas.
Many of the groups organise additional walks and events outside of the project which again helps the walk become a community focused event.
