Big Get Together event for older people in Corsham

A bake-off style cake competition is being held as part of an event to help older people find out more about local opportunities to enjoy a fulfilling retirement.

Cakes will be judged by local chef Piero Boi of The Methuen Arms Hotel and Restaurant at the Big Get Together event at Springfield Community Campus from 2pm-4pm on 26 February.

The winner of the homemade cake will win a prize of a lunch for two. Local clubs and organisations will also be attending to promote a range of interests and activities.

Groups attending include the Sing ‘n’ Smile Club and The Brunel Shed. There will also be ideas for volunteering, fitness activities and social groups.  The event is being supported by Wiltshire Age UK.

Susan Desrosiers from Wiltshire Age UK said: “By bringing various clubs and organisations together in one place, we hope to provide a showcase of activities that will encourage people to participate, get involved and expand their social life, reducing their risk of loneliness both now and in the future.”

John Thomson, cabinet member responsible for campuses said: “Springfield is a fantastic community venue and I’m delighted we’re hosting this excellent opportunity for people to come together and discover the range of opportunities available for life after retirement.”
