Active Wiltshire – Leisure Update – March

It’s been a busy couple of months for the Leisure team at Wiltshire Council and we thought we’d start to share some of those things with you on a monthly basis, and highlight some of the upcoming activities, events and opportunities that you may be interested in!

Customers can now fully appreciate the amazing new facilities at the Five Rivers Health and Wellbeing Centre. The new and upgraded facilities are all now fully operational including a fantastic new fitness suite, studio and sports hall, which is a real positive for the Salisbury area. We must thank all our customers for their patience during the building work. Why not drop in and have a look around?

February half term saw the free swimming programme for under 16’s delivered in leisure centre’s across the county with 1,878 free swims recorded by young people benefitting from this opportunity during the week. This initiative will be back again during the Easter holidays from March 25th to April 8th so make sure you take advantage! If you haven’t got a free swimming card then you can still register by visiting your local centre or downloading a form online at www.wiltshire.gov.uk/leisureandsportscentres

Please note that centres are closed on bank holidays.

There are all sorts of other activities for your children to get involved in over Easter. Camp Activate, for 5 to 14 year olds, runs at Devizes Leisure Centre, Amesbury Sports Centre, Marlborough Leisure Centre and Springfield Community Campus and is open for bookings right now! For more information and booking details, visit www.wiltshire.gov.uk/leisureandsportscentres.

We also deliver sports specific camps in Basketball, Cricket and Athletics in various locations around the county and a full listing can be found at www.activewiltshire.org.uk/events

The team also delivered a SHINE fun day at Devizes Leisure Centre which involved 50 children and adults. SHINE is our healthy lifestyle programme for 7-11 year olds and their families. It aims to promote healthy living and supports healthy lifestyle changes for young people above their healthy weight range.

The next SHINE programmes start again after Easter and run for 10 weeks in Trowbridge, Devizes, Salisbury and Chippenham. For more information please contact Mike Rose on 01225 716 674, or email shine@wiltshire.gov.uk.

Tisbury Sports Centre, Durrington Swimming & Fitness Centre and Amesbury Sports Centre will be taking part in a Sport Relief challenge next week with local people, groups and businesses battling it out to cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats on a static bike. Feel free to drop in and watch, join in or donate! We also have Sport Relief mile events taking place around the county for you to take part in. Find out more at www.sportrelief.com

There’s so much to do and get involved in within the county! Let us know what you’re up to by tweeting us @sport4wiltshire or visiting one of our leisure centre Facebook pages!
